Brutality seems to work. Dictators around the world rely on death and the threat of death to keep themselves in power. Jesus came offering life and life eternal. Because of that, he was a threat to the rulers of this world, and they killed him. When Jesus died, his disciples became disorganized, frightened, and defeated. When Jesus came back alive, followers of Jesus became the leaders of the Jesus movement. Earthly rulers use death to keep us in line, but Jesus offers life to encourage us to get in line.
